A loophole exists in the “founding principles” (Constitution) that allowed for “initiatory force.” Loophole in place, Lincoln freed slaves in the LEAST desirable way (w. the Civil War, costing 600,000 lives); a more desirable, peaceful way would have been to compensate the owners (as France & England had done), & avoid initiatory force. Ending slavery was the right thing; but creed, power, initiatory force were the underlying basis for such (trying to hold territories together by force).
